Instead, one of the most challenging things I’ve encountered working with business owners like you is getting your customers to leave you a good review or testimonial. If you do good work, it’s not wrong to ask your customers for a few words if they felt the product or service was of value.
One of the easiest ways to do this that really works is to incentivize that process. In other words, pay them something for their time. Almost everyone I know has no time to fill out another sheet of paper, especially if they gain nothing from it.
So change that part of the equation. Make it about them and give them something.
What works:
What has worked and is always a winner in every category is a simple % off coupon on their next visit or next product. Imagine asking your customer to take 5 minutes to fill out a web page with their opinion and when they’re done they’re taken to a page they can print which includes a 20% off coupon on their next visit!
Of course they are going to fill out that form. Who isn’t online? Few people are not – the majority are much more likely to fill out your form and then be taken to a web page that has a printable coupon than filling out a form at your office, or worse, promising they will get to it via email. It just never happens.
So let them know Verbally when you’re checking them out, and make sure you send them to a website, not an email or third party questionnaire. Make it simple and fun! And when they are finished, they are instantly rewarded with a coupon.
